The week follows the paper as it is really examined: ethics and the document, residence, your weakest area, corporate losses, capital tax reliefs, then the remittance basis and the professional skills marks. Each day: a short brief that teaches the topic, then genuine past-exam questions, to time. Each day tells you the one thing to look for in the model answer. Open it hunting, not browsing.
Day 6, 4pm: your lowest-scoring answer gets its second attempt. That resubmission arrow is the week's proudest number.

Five-ish minutes. It follows your mistakes — get one wrong and it digs deeper there — and it decides which area your Day 3 question targets. Answer honestly, tag how sure you were, and it'll tell you the difference between what you don't know and what you don't know you don't know.

Open any Question 1 in the ATX bank and it starts the same way: “Respond to the instructions in the email from your manager.” Not calculate the capital gains tax. Respond to your manager. Forty of the paper’s hundred marks, delivered as an email, a memorandum or meeting notes, addressed to a named person, about a named client — with professional skills marks on top for whether it actually reads like one.
That is the thing that separates ATX from TX, and it is why so many people who knew the tax still miss. TX asks whether you know the rule. ATX asks whether you can advise a person using it.
Today starts where most Q1s start: can we act for this client at all? A new client arrives, and before a single computation matters, there are questions of objectivity, competence, conflict and money laundering to work through. It is the most reliably recurring opener in the bank — and the one most often answered as a list of the five fundamental principles copied out in order.
The mark scheme does not reward the list. It rewards which principle is threatened by this specific fact, and what you would do about it. A threat with no safeguard is half an answer. A safeguard with no threat named is a guess.
Notice the format the model answer uses: From, To, Subject, Date, then headed sections. That is not decoration — it is where the communication marks are.

The deliberately light final day: what to re-read, what to ignore, and the three rules that decide ATX papers — starting with treating Question 1 as a document, not an answer.
Each day's brief takes ten minutes to read. The question takes the rest of the session. That ratio is the whole method — the marks are earned in the doing, not the reading.
1.8 minutes per mark. Every question above has its timer printed on it. Set it, and when it rings, stop — in the real exam the next question's first marks are the easiest ones left on the paper.
Underline the verb. "Identify and explain" pays twice — the name and the reason. "Advise" wants a recommendation the client could act on. And quote the scenario: generic answers score generic marks, which is to say almost none.
You cannot mark your own ATX answer objectively — everyone gives themselves the benefit of the doubt. Submit each day's answer and let the feedback tell you what an examiner would actually pay for it.
